The Current That Carries Away

The Current That Carries Away is a search for balance between inevitability and freedom, fear and acceptance. Through images of water, ritual, and human presence, the project seeks to create a space for reflection on how we experience change and learn to let go—without regret, without resistance, but with deep respect for every ending as an integral part of the whole.

Varanasi, a city where life and death coexist in every detail, serves as the starting point for a visual exploration of acceptance as an act of liberation. This project addresses the concept of inevitability—the cyclical nature of existence, where death is not seen as a tragedy, but as a harmonious part of the greater flow. Through documentary imagery and abstract visual metaphors, I aim to immerse myself in the process of release—emotional, physical, and spiritual.

At the core of this exploration is the observation of people who come to the ghats to bid farewell to their loved ones or to prepare for their own transition. The camera will capture not only outward expressions but also subtle moods, the atmosphere, and the dynamics of a space where fear is absent.

The project examines the universality of acceptance through the lens of cultural context. Varanasi becomes a place where finality takes the shape of ritual, and sorrow gives way to serenity. This phenomenon, seemingly paradoxical in a world where pain and fear of loss prevail, may serve as a mirror through which the viewer can reconsider their own relationship with impermanence.
